Looking on the Brighter Side

All winter I have tried not to complain about the frigid weather we have experienced.  It is 2 days before the first day of Spring and I am officially over the cold temps!  I have made the best out of this cold season by staying active and being outside as much as possible.  Now, I am ready to ditch the parka and snow boots for a light jacket, rainboots and an umbrella, then to tank tops, maxi dresses, shorts and sandals!

I am in a warm weather state of mind!  So, I decided to create the dream board below to help me think of warmer thoughts.  It is also a visual reminder of all of my spring/summer intentions.  My plans for Spring/Summer 2014 are to enjoy the warm weather as much as possible, use the outdoors to stay active and experience as much of the events and happenings in Toronto.

Summer Dream Board

Every time I look at it it makes me smile and I am instantly in a warmer mood.  I compiled photos of past summer rituals as well as some new activities to take on:

It would be appropriate to ring in the start of Spring with a visit to High Park to see the cherry blossom trees in full bloom.

Since I signed up to do my first 5K run (I’m serious)- I should start hitting the pavement.  I’ll be getting my run on anywhere along the the lake shore, you may catch me running up and down the Baldwin steps at Casa Loma or a enjoying nice walk through Sam Smith park.

It will be a great time to try new sports like hiking in Bluffer’s Park, paddle boarding on Lake Ontario or a bike ride down the West Toronto Railpath.  I want to get back into playing volleyball and ditch the gym for some outdoor bootcamp!

Oh, I can’t wait for outdoor farmer’s markets, patio nights with friends, heatwaves, stifling streetcars, beach parties, Caribana, lazy days spent strolling down Queen West, pedestrian Sundays in Kensington and screaming at the top of my lungs at as many Jays games as possible.

This year will be extra special because I plan on being the healthiest I have ever been.  I am looking forward to continuing my journey toward sustainable healthy living by challenging and pushing myself to try new things.

I agree, Old Man Winter has over-stayed his welcome, but it’s only a matter of time.  Focus on positivity, think about how you’re going to make the best of your summer and give yourself something to look forward to.  Before you know it, summer will be here.

Hurray for Summer
