Today was the Spin4Kids spin-a-thon at all Goodlife Fitness locations across Canada. How awesome is it to know that thousands of people are coming together on one day to help support one initiative? All of the money raised will be donated to the GoodLife Kids Foundation. The money when then be used to help fund programs that help Canadian children stay active and healthy.
I set a very achievable online fundraising goal of $125 hoping I would surpass it. My friends came through, helping me surpass my online goal and their kind messages of encouragement were so special to me.
Myself and a work colleague also raised money by hosting a bake sale at the office. I was pleased with the response I received from the people at work who purchased goodies and those who made straight donations.
Prior to signing up for the spin-a-thon, I had only tried spinning twice. I knew I had to prepare so I completed 4-5 spinning classes within the 2 months prior to the event.
The spin-a-thon was fun! The instructor (who was teaching with her daughter) was extremely motivating and tough. It was the most challenging spinning class that I have ever completed, but nothing beats great music and a really engaging teacher.
Thinking back on the experience today, I realise that fitness has really changed my life. It has made me challenge myself more and forced me to step outside of my comfort zone to try new things. I am starting to get used to the bike positioning now and I am going to incorporate spinning into my fitness routine! Nothing but positivity came from the decision to participate in this event!
Yay! Feeling great and I am so proud of what I’ve done. Now that this event is over… What’s the next challenge?
